NOTES FROM NTH MIDS VTTA MEETING 27/5/09

Brian Orgill (chairman) opened meeting by reading the Minutes of the meeting held on 10th March 2009.

He has received the report of the National AGM and if anyone would like to see it they can apply to Brian. Doreen Mahar and her husband have retired from the positions they held. Gail Summerlin has been elected to the committee. There is still a vacancy for a National Awards Secretary.

The Carlton Park, the venue for the prize-giving luncheon, is looking good with the cost per meal being about the same as before. No decision as yet has been made regarding the guest of honour.

It has been decided that membership cards will no longer be issued. With regard to Championships, only one jersey will be presented, other winners will receive medals. The deduction of £1 for subscriptions paid before the 31st December has been scrapped as has the .50p levy paid to the National Executive by event organisers.

John Fitch has written to Notts & East Mids suggesting that the two groups share courses - we marshal our end and they theirs. As yet, because of timing of meetings, we haven't had a reply, but from conversations with Joe Summerlin it would seem they would be in favour.

So many riders have complained about the Hatfield courses and with no movement towards re-establishing ourselves on the A1 again this would appear to be a reasonable alternative.

Gordon Scott said he would be willing to run a 25 and a 50 on the A courses - this is in addition to his 18k. Geoff Hague who has run the October 10 for many years is definitely finishing this year so please, if anyone can take this one up just say and you would get all the assistance necessary. That leaves only the 100 and 30 still without organisers. As you may know this year these two together with the 12 hour are being run in conjunction with other events in order to award Prestige Points and the trophies, this seems to have worked well so far. There must be more than just two members out of a total of 149 who are capable of organising an event for the North Midlands Group!

PRESTIGE POINTS COMPETITION

We are finding it difficult to let everyone know the state of play as most of the events are outside our district and organised by other groups, but we are still up to date ourselves. Hopefully next year will see us back to normal and most of the events will be under the Nth Mids control. Here are a few comments about the Team Swift 50 held on Saturday 16th May

• George Steers again created a new age record for an 86 year old with a time of 2:29:11 on a very rough day. This time has also beaten his own age records at 85 and 84, 5mins 25 secs faster than last year and 5 secs faster than the year before. Congratulations George.
• Alan West did a storming ride to record 1:54:38 Had there been only one section he would have been 10th overall and he did win the Sid Sharman Trophy and second on standard in the vets section, he also led the Rutland CC along with George Steers and Chris Broadhurst to a B.O.S. team victory, not bad at 61 congratulations to you too.
• Newcomers to our group have also made their mark David Robinson Lindsey Roads CC did a 1:55:03 and John Allen Barnsley RC did 2:8:25. Our new lady member Alex Deck will be receiving the Sue Denham Trophy, (which has been in our loft for the past few years) at the end of the year by doing a 2:13:23 in her first ever 50.
